The Dreams never dated any of the women he mentioned in Shawty Is Da Shit

It actually wasn't Keisha, Sonia, or Tania... or any of them.

The-Dream has been writing lyrics for himself and others for over a decade, playing a crucial role in the making of hits for artists like Beyoncé, Justin Bieberand Rihanna. He made his official debut in 2007 with his album Love Hate, which included his well-known songs like “Falsetto,” “I Luv Your Girl” and his most successful hit “Shawty Is Da Shit.” The track is co-produced by The-Dream and Carlos “L.O.S. Da Maestro” McKinney, and includes a feature from Fabolous, which was originally supposed to be a remix of the song but wound up becoming the albums official intro.

Although The-Dream name-checks a long list of women on the song’s chorus, he confirmed in a Genius annotation that he actually has not dated any women with the names he mentions:

Nonetheless, The-Dream ended up singing his most popular hook of his entire career, with “Shawty Is Da Shit” peaking at No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2007 and remaining his highest-charting single to date.

The-Dream sat down with Genius and broke down “Shawty Is Da Shit” in an episode of Verified, too:
